Mighty Warriors of Rome and their Barbarian Foes Join forces to Battle Nameless Horrors from Beyond Space and Time!

Cohors Cthulhu is set in the same universe as the Achtung! Cthulhu 2D20 tabletop roleplaying game, this time introducing adventurers to an era of daring gladiators, valiant centurions, and brave Germanic heroes.

You are fighting a hidden war, on the fringes of the Roman Empire. Far up on the Northern border, Romans and Germanic tribes clash in the dark and forbidden forests that cover these lands. Soon, however, you’ll have to band together to stem the invading forces of an insidious cult and its swarm of abhorrent creatures from the deep cosmos.

Cohors Cthulhu puts you on the front lines of the known world in the 2nd century, using fire, steel, and ancient technology to fight Eldritch horrors! You’ll arrive in the troubled Roman frontier town of Laurium, the archetypal walled fort that sits on the border between civilization and the mysterious, foreboding lands. Smoky taverns filled with dangerous vagabonds swirl with gossip and whispers of terrifying creatures, strange ruins, and haunted forests. Barbaric Germanic tribesmen prowl the thick woodland, but are they the only thing the Romans should be worried about?”

The upcoming Kickstarter Campaign will feature:

  • A new cinematic tabletop RPG driven by Modiphius’ 2d20 system. The Cohors Cthulhu system is based on the Achtung! Cthulhu edition of 2d20 and will feature systems to help you get playing the moment you open the book.
  • A duo of fully illustrated Player’s Guide and Gamemaster’s Guide, allowing instant accessibility to people on both sides of the story!
  • A supplementary product range including a book of adventures around Germania, a fiction anthology, a Gamemaster’s Toolkit, custom dice and other exciting items to make playing the game as immersive an experience as possible.
  • A range of ‘hero’ miniatures (28mm scale) for players to represent their own character on the tabletop as they battle their way through Laurium.
  • A narrative solo/co-operative wargame set within the COHORS CTHULHU universe is also set for a 2024 release and will be fully compatible with the miniatures launched during this campaign.

MEET THE TEAM

Our lead writer for Cohors Cthulhu is Douglas Seacat, an industry veteran who first began work all the way back in 2001 where he worked on the original award-winning Iron Kingdoms roleplaying game for Privateer Press. He worked with them for over a decade as lead writer, responsible for continuity for the Iron Kingdoms setting, its associated RPG line, magazines, fiction, as well as writing fiction for the Hordes and Warmachine miniature games. His worldbuilding and fiction for Cohors Cthulhu has set the stage for the Romans and Germanic tribes to set aside their differences and band together to fight against the abhorrent creatures invading from the deep cosmos.

Creator of Cohors Cthulhu, Achtung! Cthulhu and Dreams and Machines, Chris co-founded Modiphius with his wife Rita Birch in 2012. Chris co-developed the early 2d20 tabletop rpg system, co-wrote the Starblazer Adventures RPG for the FATE system and co-designed Airfix Battles and Homeworld: Fleet Command. Chris is involved in the UK convention scene co-owning London’s Dragonmeet convention. His work can be seen across other publishers such as Wizards of the Coast in the Monster Manual III and Player’s Strategy Guide 4e; as well as Ultimate Equipment and Campaign for Paizo Publishing. Heading the charge as the lead 2d20 developer for Cohors Cthulhu, Nathan is no stranger to this system as he’s worked on a multitude of titles published at Modiphius including Star Trek Adventures, Fallout: The RPG and the award-winning Dune: Adventures in the Imperium. His design and development of the much beloved 2d20 system will see Cohors Cthulhu undergo an evolution of what was previously used in Achtung! Cthulhu which also introduces elements to make it easier for newcomers to play. Trust in those dice and get ready to roll in a world where lovecraftian horror is set to clash with the Roman empire.

At the forefront of art direction; Ricardo sets the stage for Cohors Cthulhu by giving readers a deep look into the environments, characters, creatures and settings seen in this ancient world by conceptualising ideas for artists to then bring them to life. His guidance has paved the way for not only 2nd century Rome coming to life, but also the forces of the insidious cult players are called upon to fight.

Working with Christine on the editing of Cohors Cthulhu is Erin, proofreading and ensuring that everything players will experience throughout this expansion is as accurate and frightening as it should be.
